Mold and Sauna Power
What Mold Did to My Clients… and Why I Think Everyone Needs a Sauna
Hey friends — Joseph here.
If you know me, you know I’ve worked on a lot of houses in Hamilton County and Marion County. As a General Contractor, I’ve seen firsthand what black mold, hidden leaks, and years of poor ventilation can do to a home. But even more concerning? What it can do to people.
Let’s talk real quick about mold. Not just the kind you can see on drywall or under the sink — I’m talking about the kind you don’t see. The spores that float through your HVAC system. The ones that lodge into your lungs and slowly steal your energy.
Mold Exposure is No Joke
If you’ve ever lived in a house with water damage or poor ventilation, there’s a real chance you’ve had some exposure. Symptoms can range from annoying to downright debilitating:
Constant fatigue
Brain fog (you know, when you walk into a room and forget why?)
Sinus issues
Respiratory problems
Muscle aches
Mood swings or anxiety
Headaches that won’t quit
I’ve had clients who thought they were just getting older or stressed — turns out, their house was basically poisoning them.
Here’s Where Saunas Come In
Now, you know I co-own a sauna company — Carmel Saunas — but this is more than just a plug. I got into this because I believe in it.
Saunas are game changers for people who’ve been exposed to mold.
Here’s why:
1. Sweating Removes Toxins
One of the best ways to detox mold from your system is through sweat. Saunas, especially heat your body from the inside out — encouraging a deep, cellular-level sweat. We’re not talking gym sweat here. This is the kind that pulls toxins (including mycotoxins from mold) right out of your system.
2. Boosts Immune Function
Regular sauna sessions can increase white blood cell production. That means your body is better equipped to fight off infections and inflammation — two big issues for anyone dealing with mold exposure.
3. Supports the Lymphatic System
Think of your lymphatic system like your body’s garbage disposal. When you sit in a sauna, you help your lymph nodes drain and function more efficiently. Translation? Less junk stuck in your body.
4. Improves Brain Function + Energy
That brain fog that comes with mold exposure? A sauna can help clear it. Studies show that saunas increase circulation and oxygen flow to the brain. Many people report sharper thinking, better sleep, and more energy after just a few sessions.
5. Promotes Healing
This is the one that gets me the most. Saunas promote natural healing. They reduce inflammation, soothe sore muscles, and give your body a reset. After working on so many mold-damaged homes, I honestly wish every homeowner had a sauna installed. Prevention and recovery — all in one.
Real Talk from a Contractor
I’ve ripped out moldy drywall. I’ve replaced entire HVAC systems because mold got in the ducts. I’ve seen families have to move out, not because of the damage, but because of what the house was doing to their health.
If you’ve ever had a moldy basement, a leaky roof, or even lived in a house with musty smells — you could be dealing with the aftereffects now. And if you’re trying to detox, reset, and protect your health going forward… a sauna just makes sense.
And honestly? You deserve to feel amazing in your own home.
